Il Camerun è uno dei peggiori posti al mondo per essere gay.
Basta chiedere a Jean-Claude Roger Mbede, che è stato condannato al carcere per 3 anni solo perché ha mandato un SMS a un altro uomo dicendo: "Sono molto innamorato di te."
In questo momento, il presidente del Camerun Biya è a Parigi per incontrare il presidente francese Hollande. Anche l'avvocato senza paura di Roger, Alice N'Kom, è andato in Francia, per chiedere aiuto.
Hollande ha promesso che la Francia si batterà in tutto il mondo per la fine delle leggi anti-gay in paesi come il Camerun, e Alice ha bisogno del suo aiuto per liberare Roger.
Alice sta andando a portare la nostra petizione direttamente a Hollande. Il Presidente Biya non può ignorare Hollande perché egli cura ciò che i leader stranieri pensano della sua presidenza.
Se saremo in tanti di noi a farci sentire in questo momento, siamo in grado di sostenere Hollande nel suo fare ciò che è giusto.
Ha bisogno di dire a Biya che è ora di liberare Roger e tutte le persone in prigione in Camerun semplicemente perché sono gay.

La situazione di Roger è disastrosa. Un giudice di appello ha appena confermato la sua sentenza il mese scorso. E 'ricorso alla Corte Suprema, ma è un processo lento, con nessuna garanzia di giustizia, in primo luogo nel sistema corrotto che ha permesso che questo accadesse. E peggio ancora - Roger non è l'unico la cui vita è in gioco, ci sono stati almeno altri 2 arresti di persone accusate di essere gay solo questo mese.
La situazione per lesbiche, gay, bi e trans in Camerun sta peggiorando, non migliorando.
Un rapporto recentemente pubblicato da Amnesty International ha rivelato che l'omofobia dei funzionari eletti, della polizia e di tutte le autorità sta rendendo impossibile per i camerunensi a vivere apertamente e senza paura se amano qualcuno dello stesso sesso - o anche se si vestono in un modo che qualcuno pensa sembrino 'gay.' La gente come Roger non può aspettare, mentre i leader del Camerun li abbandonano nelle mani di un sistema giudiziario che li considera il male e li getta in carcere.
Hollande può far arrivare il messaggio a Biya e farglielo ascoltare a porte chiuse, per poter avere il maggiore impatto.
Egli sa che questa è la cosa giusta da fare. Facciamo in modo che si assuma il suo impegno per i diritti umani e chieda che Roger sia liberato assolutamente - e vengano annullate le leggi anti-gay in Camerun.

Roger's 3-year jail sentence for sending a 'gay' text message was just confirmed, but his lawyer, Alice, is fighting for his freedom. Tell French President Hollande to speak out now for Roger when he meets with Cameroon President next week! 
| Dear Alba, Cameroon is one of the worst places in the world to be gay. Just ask Roger Jean-Claude Mbede, who was sentenced to jail for 3 years just because he sent an SMS to another man saying, "I'm very much in love w/u." Right now, Cameroon's President Biya is in Paris to meet with the French President Hollande. Roger's fearless lawyer, Alice N'Kom, came to France as well, to ask for help. Hollande promised France will fight worldwide to end anti-gay laws like Cameroon's so Alice needs his help to free Roger. Alice is going to take our petition straight to Hollande. He's appealing to the Supreme Court, but it's a slow process with no guarantee of justice in the corrupt system that allowed this to happen in the first place. What's more – Roger's not the only one whose life is at stake; there have been at least 2 more arrests of people accused of being gay this month alone. The situation for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people in Cameroon is getting worse, not better. A recently released report from Amnesty International revealed that homophobia by elected officials, police and authorities all over is making it impossible for Cameroonians to live openly and without fear if they love someone of the same gender – or even if they dress in a way that someone thinks seems 'gay.' People like Roger can't wait around while Cameroon's leaders abandon them to a justice system that believes they're evil and belong in jail. Hollande can get the message to Biya heard behind closed doors, where it will have the most impact. He knows this is the right thing to do. Let's make sure he stands by his commitment to human rights and calls for Roger to be freed from all charges – and for an end to the anti-gay laws in Cameroon.
